This article will show you how to run a Phonics lesson with your robot or virtual avatar.
Before beginning, please confirm that your robot and iPads are on and connected to WiFi.
To run a RoboKind Phonics lesson, follow the steps below:
On your facilitator device, open the RoboKind Companion app (or Web Companion). Select “Facilitator”
On your student device, open the RoboKind Companion app (or Web Companion). Select “Student”
Log in using your RoboKind Central username and password.
Under "RoboKind Curriculum", select "RoboKind Phonics"
On the facilitator device, Quick Pair your devices. Select your student device and your Robot or Virtual Avatar. Once highlighted orange, click “Connect”.
If you're using a Virtual Avatar, select your character.
From your respective classroom(s) select your student(s) and then click “Start”
You will notice four tabs that filter Phonics lessons based on a set of criteria;
- Under “Up Next”, you will see the next lesson recommended based on the scope and sequence
- Underneath “IEP”, you will have lessons recommended based on your student’s IEP information entered in RoboKind Central
- Underneath "Standards", you can sort lesson recommendations based on the standard you are targeting.
- You have the option to search all lessons in the RoboKind Phonics curriculum in the “All Modules” tab

Once the lesson is selected you will have the option to run:
- Full Lesson - this option runs the teaching and practice segments. Running a full lesson counts towards mastery and generates data.

Teach - this option runs the explanatory segment of a lesson. Used to review information or before accessing extension activities. Does not count towards mastery.

Practice - this option is for demonstrating knowledge of lesson materials and checking knowledge retention. Does not count towards mastery.
On the left side of the screen you’ll be provided with an overview of the lesson, information from previous attempts, IEP goals in the lesson, along with lesson history.
You’re also encouraged to note the student’s emotions prior to starting underneath “Student is feeling…” on the top right of the screen.
Select "Full Lesson" to run a Phonics Lesson, and collect your student's data in RoboKind Central.
When running a Phonics Lesson, please note the Facilitator Controls are at the bottom of the facilitator Screen.
- Back: Return to the previous slide in the lesson.
- Next Slide: Move onto the next slide in the lesson.
- Camera Mirror: Activate your iPads camera to operate as a mirror, so that your student can practice targeted phonemes.
- Robot: Activate the robot or virtual avatar (only available on certain slides).
- Stop Robot: Stop robot or virtual avatar speech and/or movement.
- Dance Break: Activate a dance break with your robot/virtual avatar and student.
- End Lesson: Ends lesson.
Note: RoboKind Phonics lessons include facilitator instructions on every slide to support educators as they walk through lessons.
Tip: To advance to future slides, on the facilitator tablet you can scroll to the slide you want and hold down for 3 seconds to jump ahead.
During each RoboKind Phonics lesson, your leaner will have the opportunity to practice with I-VAKT™️ strategies. You will use your RoboKind Phonics Learning Kit to create learning centers.

During each RoboKind Phonics lesson, your student will be assessed with five questions.
